He tears away the restricting shroud of memories and past battles, won and lost and brushes the grave dirt from his cold skin. He spits an errant worm from between his broken teeth and tests the edge of his blade against the flesh of his thumb. The skin parts and a sluggish stream of thick, black blood trickles lazily into his palm, forming a dark, shining pool. He stares for a moment at the image of his face, captured in the quickly congealing fluid; part man, part mask – all monster. But this is no time for dreaming, no time for thinking or reflecting. Death is calling. The Anialator is back and there’s killing to be done!
Six years on from their last release, the Rise To Supremacy EP and decades since the ragged violence of the Anialator and Anialator II records, which still hold a special place in the hearts of many thrashers, Texan legends Anialator are back and finally unleashing their first full length album – Death Is Calling! A seven track nail bomb of classic thrash sounds, straight from the underground, there has been no dilution of the Anialator sound by the modern genre blending plague…but neither is this some pastiche of past glories. From the white knuckle ride along the razor’s edge of chaos and darkness that is opener ‘Kill Til Death’, it’s clear that Anialator are still raw, still savage, still vicious but they’re now operating at a higher level of precision and power. With the brilliantly barbaric vocals, searing lead work and accomplished song writing there can be no doubt that Death Is Calling represents Anialator’s finest work to date. From the awesome ‘Iron Grinder’, a gritty invocation of evil, to ‘Battlefield Messiah’ with its torrent of Slayerized riffs that cuts a swathe through its enemies and leaves bloody carnage in its wake, this album is relentless. There’s no filler here, with every track standing proud in the frontline trench, with gritted teeth and blood boiling with uncontrollable aggression and adrenaline. These songs are made for the pit, for headbanging until your neck breaks, for ear-bleeding volume…this full length album may have been a long time coming, but it is everything that fans could have hoped for and more.
Mastered by the in demand Arthur Rizk (Cavalera Conspiracy, Cro-Mags, Kreator etc) Death Is Calling possesses a visceral power, the dirt and dried blood under its ragged finger nails evident in each snarling riff and venomous vocal exhortation.
