I will search this limitless world of heritage and memories for the sleeping gods who lie at the centre of it all, waiting for me to discover myself and awake them from their slumbers.
The well of creativity and inspiration never seems to run dry for Concrete Age! The masters of ethnic metal relocated from the North Caucasus region to London in 2014 and are now about to release their tenth album, the incredible Awaken The Gods. That Concrete Age have continued to scale new heights with their unique craft is immediately apparent, as opening track ‘Prey For Me’ reveals an overwhelming array of musical treasures; distinctive eastern melodies, intricate guitar work and rhythms, wonderful solos, huge choruses and a characteristic vocal roar. With so many ideas so expertly blended the dynamic range of the track is astounding – a real shock and awe opener! And this is only the start of an amazing musical journey, where ambitious, imaginative song writing is brought to dazzling life through fantastic musicianship. With the dark and intense ‘Forbidden Ministry’, the adrenaline infused ‘Cursed Reincarnation’ and the fierce ‘Warrior’s Anthem’ Awaken The Gods is perhaps Concrete Age’s heaviest ever album – but it’s also their most textured, rich and deep. An array of ethnic instruments add exotic tones and an air of myth and mystery to songs like the impressive title track and they have been perfectly integrated within the framework of Concrete Age, as necessary and natural as a heartbeat. Absolutely electrifying from beginning to end, Awaken The Gods is a breathtaking exploration of the inner self and a stunning addition to the remarkable Concrete Age canon.
As well as eight expansive original compositions, Awaken The Gods comes with two bonus tracks – cover versions of ‘Boro Boro’ by Iranian/Swedish singer Arash and ‘Şimarik’ by Turkish musician Tarkan. Both have been infused with Concrete Age’s customary intensity and offer an intriguing insight into the diversity of the band’s inspirations and influences. Recorded and mixed by Concrete Age front man, Ilia Morozov, with invaluable assistance from guitarist Boris Zahariev and bassist Giovanni M Ruiu, Awaken The Gods will be released on May 15th and will be available on all major digital platforms. A voyage of discovery awaits!
