The boiling clouds of war spread across the polluted skies, once blue now stained pus-yellow by the endless streams of incinerated waste. Factory towers spew their venomous chemicals into the air, like filthy syringes injecting disease into the atmosphere. Beneath this vast mural of destruction, empty headed, unthinking humanity stumbles into the grave, eyes fixed firmly on their phones as they digitally protest how important, how beautiful, how brave they all are…dreaming in their virtual world of pretty colours while reality burns, chokes on effluents and drowns in yesterday’s treasures, today’s offal. And through the hail of bullets and cancerous fumes we march on, from our brave new world towards idiocracy…
Towards Idiocracy is the third full length album from Spain’s premier thrash metal battle tank, Holycide. Following on from 2023s rampaging EP, Bazookiller, Towards Idiocracy is armed to the teeth with machinegun riffs and prophecies of destruction; a completely uncompromising thrash attack on the soulless avarice, self-serving arrogance and blind stupidity of mankind and its crumbling towers, built upon the rotting carcass of this once paradisiacal world. Opening with the pit-inducing anthem ‘A.I. Supremacy’ Towards Idiocracy is utterly invested with the spirit of thrash metal and tracks like the neck-snapping ‘Remote Control’ trample over modern trends and influences, leaving them bleeding in the dust, torn apart by scything solos, devastating drum artillery and the confrontational vocal prowess of front man Dave Rotten (Avulsed). A glorious, faithful cover of the Atrophy classic ‘Chemical Dependency’ fits perfectly into the Holycide assault, emphasising the band’s thrash mastery and dedication. Teeth-grindingly intense, Towards Idiocracy is inarguably Holycide’s finest release to date, featuring more top class riffs than most bands can muster in an entire career. The sheer firepower unleashed by the likes of ‘Angry For Nothing’ and ‘Pleased To Be Deceived’ is just breathtaking. With Towards Idiocracy Holycide have driven their standard through the fractured skull of modern metal and screamed out a challenge to all-comers.
Towards Idiocracy is set for release through Xtreem Music at 6pm on the 6th of June – the international day of Slayer – and there could be no more appropriate day to unleash its fury as this album represents Holycide’s very own Reign In Blood; an album of unrelenting ferocity that sees the band attaining new levels of violence and force! The quality of the band’s songs and performances is matched by the sound achieved through the mixing and mastering skills of Javier Fernández Milla (Angelus Apatrida, Avulsed etc) and Davide Billia (Posthuman Abomination, Beheaded etc) - absolute thrash perfection, blending crisp precision and bone breaking impact. Completing this incredible package is the magnificent cover, created by Ukrainian artist Daemorph (The Black Dahlia Murder, Stabbing etc) – putting the final seal of absolute quality on what will surely be the finest thrash metal album of 2024.
