After lighting up the Toronto club scene for over a decade with songs that transport audiences to realms of euphoria, the city’s self proclaimed ‘shiniest band’ are about to deliver their cerebral shock to the world. The album opens in a burst of electrifying guitar, boldly heading straight into the band’s ‘superhero cartoon theme song’, the anthemic and irresistible ‘We’re Hot Apollo’ where a languid vocal rides on crisp drumming and punk vibes and a searing solo tears across the sky. From that blazing beginning Hot Apollo take you on a tour of driving grooves, flamboyant guitar embellishments, enfolding atmospheres and choruses that feel like you’ve known them all your life. From the slinky, sliding riffs of ‘Priorities’, a song that walks the margins between playful and defiant, to the dream state dance of ‘Slayance’; from ‘Beltane’, made to make you move with its cool lead guitar wandering through a patchwork of neon glow and shadow, to the metal edge and galloping rhythms of ‘Gjallarbu’. Every song on Against The Odds Because We’re Gods occupies its own unique space, but they are all united by the irrepressible, irresistible spirit of Hot Apollo. The final two songs on the album – ‘Stop Drop Rock ‘n’ Roll’ and ‘Never Stay Down’ – rock hard and joyously, leaving you energised, renewed and alive, before this band of maverick marauders head back to the stars from whence they came.

The vibrant sound of Against The Odds… was captured by renowned Canadian producer Scotty Komer of the band Boys Night Out, who has worked with the likes of Protest The Hero and Silverstein. Every voice in the Hot Apollo choir gets to speak and bathe in the spotlight – from the full figured bass to the snapping drums, the fizzing guitars to the sonorous vocals – and the result is effervescent. The album will be released by SelfMadeRecords on December 26th on CD, LP and Digital formats – the perfect party to end the year…and everyone’s invited!
