MONACHOPSIS – THE CARCASS CHOIR EP

    LABEL: INDEPENDENT RELEASE

    RELEASE DATE: NOVEMBER 21st 2025

Amidst the ruined remnants of a chapel, dedicated to gods long forgotten, beneath endless starless skies where the night wanders on forever and the daylight never comes; they gather to remember all the things that they once were. From desiccated lips, rotten throats and absent hearts they raise a bitter threnody, up to the obsidian firmament. An atonal gathering of whispers, laden with the sorrow of centuries…listen…hear the brittle, broken song of the carcass choir.

The Carcass Choir is the third EP from Leicester, UK based band, Monachopsis, who have been refining the intricacies of their melodic, technical death metal tapestries since 2015. This collection of songs represents the culmination of years of hard work and adversities overcome and sees Monachopsis reaching a new level of creative accomplishment.

Opening with its title track, The Carcass Choir is ushered in on rafts of rich, dark chords adorned in the flickering light of electrifying lead work. Anticipation builds on a growing tidal wave of power that crashes down into shuddering riffs and aggressive vocal lines. There’s a complexity in the performances and the song’s structure, but it’s delivered in a finely honed, compact warhead of burnished steel and dazzling flares of melody ignite between the layers of sound. The atmosphere is superb, a sense of depth, darkness and things unseen, which continues into second song, ‘Letters From The Doomsday Vault’. These songs don’t offer up everything they are in a single listen; the engaging hooks and thrilling guitar work capture you immediately, but there is much more to uncover than is first apparent. As the music balances complexity and accessibility, immediacy and depth, so the vocals deliver both snarling venom and clarity of expression, with all these contrasts managed masterfully. A commanding version of Darkest Hour’s ‘Love As A Weapon’ sits at the heart of the EP, a nod to the genesis of Monachopsis, it being the first song ever performed live by the band. The two tracks which complete The Carcass Choir are stunning, revitalised versions of two tracks which originally appeared on Monachopsis’ 2018 EP From Mind To Eye. Both ‘Scathed By Branches Of Malice’ and ‘The God Project’ have become staples of the Monachopsis live set and here they are reborn – full of serrated intensity and superb guitar solos. Crisp, direct and focussed yet full of twists, turns and surprises – keeping the listener ensnared in their maze of thorns.

Meticulously mixed and mastered by Nik Palivos at Haunting Studios (Elysian, Rohan, Eonian etc), every element of The Carcass Choir’s elaborate and sophisticated sound palette possesses its own space, just waiting to be discovered. The final hallmark of quality is then applied by the magnificent artwork of Mohammed Hoirul (Flesh Remains etc) – emphasising The Carcass Choir’s status as the pinnacle of Monachopsis’ work to date and the gateway to an exciting future full of rare potential. The voices of The Carcass Choir will fill the night on November 21st - be sure to listen to the secrets that they share.
