The engine roars, adding its primal, petrol-fuelled fury to the cacophony of the midnight streets. With menace in its very construction the car seems to prowl the pools of neon light, the sound of the devil’s music blasting from it like a heartbeat. Hymns to lust, violence and rebellion rise up through the darkness, clawing their way through the watching windows, becoming a soundtrack to the sordid stories being played out behind the glass. The Necrosexual smiles, tasting every warm, wet drop of passion, pain, desperation and cruelty as he passes. Hands on the wheel he rides through the hopeless, despairing dreams of the shadow people, trapped on a road to rubble and ruin…
Road To Rubble is the new album from Philadelphia’s Necrosexual, a band that revel in the dark excesses of the metal mindset and ideology, bringing together overdriven guitars and irreverent belligerence, extremes of velocity with the blackest humour and resolute defiance. Lead by charismatic frontman, The Necrosexual, these creatures of the night have been rampaging through the metal underground with their intoxicating elixir of heavy metal, thrash metal and horror punk since 2011, releasing their debut album, GRIM-1, in 2018 - and they’ve never sounded better than they do right now…
Opening with the primal riffs and bestial vocalisations of ‘High Times In Hell’, a song built from old bones but with fresh flesh upon them, Road To Rubble walks a weaving, drunken line between carnage and celebration. ‘The Brimstone Brothel’ combines a punk punch with blast beat madness in a tale of cannibalism behind the walls of an old west bordello and ‘Kiss The Knife’ is a burlesque carnival of horror and erotica with snarling riffs, driving rhythms and scything, melodic lead work. Each song is a step along the road to damnation, another mile into a hell curated by The Necrosexual; from the tattered majesty and epic tales of wasteland warriors that is ‘All Roads Lead To Rubble’ to ‘Nocturnal Ignition’ that shifts from moonlight and dust to muscular riffs, gothic drama and dirty punk sleaze. When the bloodthirsty dominatrix of ‘Hard Leather Woman’ has finished with you – a strident, ironclad, climactic conclusion – you’ll be left scarred and bloodstained, with illusions shattered and eyes open to all that walks on the other side of the night.
Mixed by Steve Roche (Blemish, Pariiah, Serpent Throne etc) and mastered by Arthur Rizk (Power Trip, Blood Incantation, Cavelera Conspiracy), Road To Rubble has an ‘80s metal darkness and bite, but with a scalpel sharp clarity and modern vivacity. It’s a heady, hypnotic combination that will keep you crawling back for more. Adorned in the garish, gaudy, acid nightmare of Scott R. Johnston’s vibrant cover artwork, Road To Rubble will be available on vinyl, CD, cassette and digital formats from the Necrosexual webstore in the US and on CD and cassette from Black Metal Archives in the UK.
