He lives in the lightless caverns beneath the earth, a subterranean emperor in his palace of death, his chambers fashioned from the manipulated bodies of those taken from the sunlit lands above. There are no limits to his appetite for slaughter, no boundaries to those upon whom he will unleash his colossal capacity for violence. If it breathes he will kill it, if it bleeds he will abuse and consume it, if it screams he will sculpt it, torment it, bludgeon it and redesign its purpose. Some may call him Brute, but before the end they will know him as their god.
In case you had forgotten just who the heaviest band on the goddamn planet is, NecroticGoreBeast have returned with a timely reminder in the form of Brute – an EP of shocking heft and horror, even by their earthshaking standards. Opening with the pulsing electronics of the title track, an intro that summons memories of classic ‘80s horror films, Brute then rears into hypnotically malevolent life with the immeasurable, crushing weight of ‘Assault Of Severed Genitalia’ – a song that sounds like a wounded beast dragging itself across broken glass. The agonised, skull shattering riffs pile on the pressure until it feels like your body will simply burst…brutality is not determined by velocity, as this ten ton payload of gore amply demonstrates. Throughout Brute vocalist John Mayer delivers some of the best brutal death metal vocals you will ever hear. His performance on the likes of ‘Sensual Regurgitation’ and ‘Maggot Filled Colonoscopy’ is breathtaking in its bestiality and barbarity. The EP concludes with ‘Knuckle Deep Convulsions’, featuring a guest vocal appearance from Chaney Crabb (Entheos) and this is one nasty track – oozing bad intent – a seething morass of malignancy and spite; creeping viciousness juxtaposed with rampant aggression. Yet again NecroticGoreBeast have proved they are untouchable in the field of extreme brutality.
Brute was recorded at Equilibrium Studio with Christopher Rannou-Poulin, guitarist with Beyond Fiction and the mixing and mastering magic was applied by Miguel Tereso of Demigod Recordings who, as well as illuminating the sonic atrocities on NecroticGoreBeast’s three full length albums, has also worked with the likes of Analepsy, Gaerea and many more. This team has captured the heaviest sound yet from the Canadian monsters – each beautiful ugly riff given the maximum in merciless power. Complete with stunning artwork from Andreas Christanetoff of Armaada Art (Aborted, Kraanium etc), Comatose Music will unleash this grotesque sonic killing machine on September 12th.
