Founded in the summer of 2015 in the greater New Jersey area, Prevailer are about to unveil their full-length debut album of challenging, cathartic, progressive metalcore - Convalescent. The band released a well received, self-titled EP in 2016 and since then have dropped a number of powerful singles, but now, with their definitive line-up finally in place and a new alliance formed with Rottweiler Records, the band are ready to reveal their devastating first album. Featuring eight exquisitely crafted tracks, each one a soul-searching journey, a confrontation, a revelation, the long years that have been invested in Convalescent's creation are more than apparent. Be prepared for a listening experience that will accept no half-truths or excuses, no hiding or disassembling. Stand shoulder to shoulder with Prevailer and face reality, head on.
Convalescent opens with 'Diseased Frames', in a seething morass of aggression - huge drums, snarling guitars and rabid vocals - all working their way towards the release of the superb melodic chorus. Rich, ambient sounds add an additional layer of atmosphere and depth and the whole song hits hard and fizzes with adrenaline. It sets the scene perfectly for the overwhelming onslaught of both musical and lyrical weight that is to follow - and there's certainly no let up as we drive on into the staggered blows, twisting riffs and jarring rhythms of first single 'Into The Furnace'. There's another transcendental chorus and the harsh vocals are ferocious; almost painful in their raw vehemence…
“Walk with me through the fields of pain, ingest the endless struggle,
let us begin again.”
…every word is delivered with a fervent sense of purpose, an unquestionable honesty and passion and that focus and aura of absolute belief radiates through the music as well; from the hammering intensity of 'Conflux' to the final, cataclysmic conclusion of 'Inversion' that pushes everything into the red and beyond. Every track on Convalescent hits like a white-knuckle, teeth gritted whirlwind of emotion, bar the title track - a brief island of peace in this raging storm - but even that is laced with portent and foreboding, deep currents of things unspoken running beneath its still waters. Convalescent in a compelling, confrontational album, explosive and incendiary, a light bright enough to burn through the deepest darkness.
With a sound that perfectly harnesses the strength, passion and edge of desperation in these remarkable songs, Convalescent is a stunning demonstration of progressive metalcore at its most emotive, adventurous and heartfelt. Brutally heavy, yet entwined in the most uplifting melodies, Prevailer's music explores the vast and varied territory of their chosen genre. Look for Convalescent's arrival on August 28th, from Rottweiler Records.
