Every night as the wings of somnolence enfold you, you slip into the darkness with a fervent, desperate prayer upon your lips; a plea for simple, empty oblivion, for dreamless slumber before the saving daylight comes. But as you tumble through the ephemeral wall of sleep the transportation is immediate…the alleyway, the rain, the blood bubbling in your throat, your eyes frozen open in horror. The knives rising, glinting in the garish orange street light and then falling with sickening force - the hypnotic cycle repeated again and again. The weight of her body falling onto you, her mouth open in an obscene parody of passion forcing a lifeless kiss upon your lips as her empty eyes stare into yours…a moment that will never end…soul scarring, life warping, hideously traumatic.
In 2024 they gave us a first poisonous taste of the horrors to come with their self titled demo; now Indonesia’s Symphobia are ready to unleash the full impact of their shocking brutality with debut album Hideously Traumatic! Exploding into life with opening track ‘Hecatomb’, a nail bomb of intricate riffs, precision drumming, heart-stopping tempo changes and disembowelling vocals, Hideously Traumatic proceeds to bury the listener in an unstoppable avalanche of wildly violent death metal. Featuring members of Demented Heart and Perveration, this elite unit unleash spiralling brutality that sucks you into a maelstrom of madness, the generated centrifugal force threatening to rip your body apart. Fiercely focussed throughout, this album is an imposing invocation of purposeful destruction. From the palpable malice of ‘Heinous’ through the bone-carving grooves of ‘Convulsively’ to the cataclysmic conclusion of ‘Inebriated’ this is a catalogue of accomplished atrocities and perfectly formed abominations. Mixed and mastered by Tonebetter Soundlab (Vox Mortis, Nattmaran, Murtad etc) for a scathing, scalding sound and adorned in the eye-impaling artwork of Timbul Cahyono (Massacre, Nocturnus A.D., Witchburner etc) Hideously Traumatic is a sonic killing machine devoted to the destruction of every living thing.
