Vortex Sutra

VORTEX SUTRA - NOUMENON

LABEL: HALLUCIGENIA RECORDS

RELEASE DATE: JUNE 27th 2026

Phenomenon and noumenon, the heard and seen, the perceived, the independent and ideal beyond human sensory perception. Within and apart, fundamentally unknowable, beyond understanding or beyond possibility? New territories of science or the province of gods and angels…questions and complexities forming pathways, igniting thought and imagination. Sound and spirit unbound, unrestrained, unrestricted. Broken walls revealing vast vistas of fresh inspiration and purpose…

Noumenon, 'the thing in itself', existing independently of human perception and understanding, the opposite of phenomenon, 'the thing perceived or observed' - a concept, a term introduced to philosophical thinking by Immanuel Kant. It is also the new album by Vortex Sutra, the vehicle for the imagination and creative spirit of Hungarian born, Scottish resident Denes Poszmik. Within the infinite musical landscape of Vortex Sutra, Denes can breathe life into the most progressive and borderless of ideas, giving free rein to his instincts unhindered by concession or compromise, drawing from his passion for an endless array of composers - from Portishead to King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard, Genesis to Angine de Poitrine, Tool to Pink Floyd and far beyond. Built upon the musical ambition of the pioneers of progressive rock and the adventurous spirit of the genre's modern day outliers, yet also in tune with the harder edged innovators of contemporary metal, delivering a captivating spectacle for the senses in a live arena, Vortex Sutra speaks without words to all open, questing minds.

The second Vortex Sutra album, Noumenon follows in the celestial wake of Glimpse Into The Transcendental, a recording described as a 'unique experience' by Nine Circles. That description can also be readily applied to Noumenon. Presented in four movements, like a classical symphony, Noumenon is something so much more than sound; it surrounds you, encompassing the senses - it simply is and by listening you become part of it. Formed from different moods and auras, exploring different visions and territories, with a constant sense of propulsion and movement, Noumenon is an exhilarating flight across worlds and through emotions. The colour palettes seem infinite, the sense of enthusiasm and joy infectious. Flickering threads of tension emerge and are resolved and particularly in the third movement, 'Noumenon 3.1' with its fervent rhythms and cascading rain of notes, the music seems to toy with the perceptions - is it playful, menacing, revealing or concealing? An intentional reflection of the unknowable nature of noumena? One thing is for sure, this music is alive, pulsing with vitality and indeed Denes intends the album to be a living thing, with future movements to be recorded that listeners can integrate or exchange, creating an ever changing and evolving, endlessly varied experience. A floating dream infused with effervescent energy, a remarkable, challenging, atmospheric wandering, a ride upon the crest of a wave of sound through shifting dimensions, dazzling, dancing, sunshine and starlight surrounding imposing sonic structures…Noumenon is breathtaking, dream initiating, thought instigating - a 'unique experience' indeed…

With its frenetic bass work, driving rhythms, intricate keys and swathes of synths, all adding up to more than the sum of their parts, Noumenon will be released on June 27th on CD and via all major streaming services, through Hallucigenia Records. The cover art features the 1918 painting, Non-Objective Painting no. 80 (Black on Black) by Aleksandr Rodchenko - a work that asks as many questions as Noumenon itself.
