We’re careering to the end now, pedal to the metal and picking up speed with every turn around the sun; humanity clambering over itself to reach the landfill of shit, bones and misery where it belongs. Some will weep their way to our mass, open grave, capturing their final pathetic moments on the cracked screens of the devices that have eaten their souls. And some will howl in the flames of destruction…drink, fight and bleed their way to oblivion. The end of days will be their best of days as they grind glass into society’s rotten face. Four years on from their cranium crushing third album, Hammer The Bastards, Manchester’s feral kings of the underworld – Wolfbastard – have returned, armed with the turbo charged belligerence of new album Satanic Scum Punks! Opening track ‘It’s Fucking Dark’ begins with a strange, tarnished majesty before a riotous punk riff tears out its throat and a raucous cry of ‘Fuck Off!’ sends us hurtling into the darkness. There’s no respite, no acoustic interludes or moments of atmospheric reflection, just ultra-aggressive punk riffs with a jagged black metal blade concealed inside them. ‘Let The Bastards Burn’ leaves you in no doubt that Wolfbastard won’t just let the bastards burn, they’ll be starting the fire, adding any accelerant that comes to hand and kicking any escapees back into the flames. The ripping, addictive black mayhem of first single ‘Hail Satan Kurwa’ is a breathtaking rush of full force blast and ‘F.O.T.D.’ is the kind of song that would headbutt you for breathing. There is no weakening of the ice and dirt, fire and thunder assault as Satanic Scum Punks progresses; from the devil may care, feet first into the abyss adrenaline of ‘Drink For Hell’ to the body breaking ‘Manic Street Creatures’ this album just hits harder and harder. And finally it ends just where it began, with a spittle-flecked ‘fuck off’, before collapsing back into the gutter.
Now with the backing of a powerhouse new label, champions of the underground Apocalyptic Witchcraft, the filth, fury, malice and menace of Wolfbastard will be spread like a disfiguring plague.
