Forever Autumn prepare to release The Lamentations
November 19, 2025
Since the dawn of the millennium Autumn Ni Dubhghaill has woven music and magic into transportative songs of deep emotion and penetrating vision. Under the name of Forever Autumn, from her home in the wooded uplands of the Berkshires in Massachusetts, she has created powerfully affecting listening experiences, both uniquely intimate and with universal connection. Sometimes she has worked with other musicians, like cellist Jon McGrath and My Dying Bride vocalist Aaron Stainthorpe – and sometimes she works alone, as on the latest Forever Autumn album, The Lamentations.
The Lamentations is a remarkable piece of work, perhaps the most enveloping that Autumn has ever brought to life. From the very first notes of opening track, ‘Beltaine’, this music speaks with a vitality and vibrancy that dims the light of the world around you, bringing its own reality into focus. From the overwhelming poignancy and passion revealed around the ‘Beltaine’ fire, Autumn leads us through the melting snows and turning seasons of ‘Self-Portrait In Blue, Black And Grey’, the witch dreams of ‘Hexes And Wards’, the cold night comfort of ‘The Black Candle’ and other profoundly affecting experiences. With the earthy authenticity of acoustic instrumentation and the wild versatility of her voice, she invokes the vast emotions and chilling intensity thought to only be the province of doom and venomous black metal. On The Lamentations those varied shades of darkness are swirled within a palette of fallen leaves, firelight and shadow; rough hewn wood and spears of ice. Drawing on folk music from around the world, from the common roots, too oft forgotten, that bind us all, natural magic and inherent memory, Autumn Ni Dubhghaill has invoked something truly special – something that speaks from her heart that we all need to hear.
Mixed by Robby Baier and mastered by Jack Control (Darkthrone, Inculter, Ice War etc), who also worked on the last Forever Autumn release, the critically acclaimed Crowned In Skulls EP and wrapped in artwork full of both questions and answers, painted by Autumn herself, The Lamentations will be released on January 3rd 2026 – the night of the Wolf Moon. The Lamentations is a gift, a blessing and a warning…a path into the new year ahead.
