The Machinist prepare to release Towers
A little over a year ago Manchester's The Machinist shocked the underground music world with the nihilistic intensity of their second album, Contempt For Life - an album that unveiled a vicious, pitiless vision of a world without hope, set to a soundtrack of coruscating, mechanized black death violence. Standing in the wreckage left behind by Contempt for Life, no-one would have expected that three, even more extreme, bastard children from those recording sessions were still left unfinished in the darkness; three songs that have now gone through the final agonizing process of creation. Flesh and steel fused together, injected with the desperate yearning for absolute oblivion - Towers is about to be unleashed!'Sagittarius In Bloom' erupts into the consciousness with tightly wound riffs drawn from a cosmic well of chaos, blasting through a bitter darkness, swamped in an atmosphere of otherness and an aura of implacable confrontation. It tumbles through different musical planes, defying any desires for certainty or understanding before catapulting the listener into the bloodstained and unforgiving 'Of Creation And Cancer'. Wild guitars and vocals like an expulsion of pestilence from the throat of hell forge a sonic weapon of sanity shattering intensity and thunderous rhythms carry us on, like a cyborg wild hunt across skies painted in the hues of blood and fire. And all the madness and terror then reaches the cataclysmic conclusion of 'Cellular Catharsis', surely one of the most challenging and emphatic expressions of The Machinist's philosophy of rage and despair. From seething lava to cold ashes to towering monoliths of obsidian night, 'Cellular Catharsis' is a constantly evolving, living entity, a genuine epic of the extreme. A clash between the exhilarating force of obliterating sound and the abandonment of all hope and belief. More than just the rancorous, vengeful forgotten children of Contempt For Life, the songs that form the forbidding presence of Towers are amongst the most dynamic and destructive that The Machinist have ever created.
With its skin slicing blades and flesh piercing hooks polished to a malicious gleam by the mixing and mastering of George Nerantzis (Abbath, Dark Funeral, Rotting Christ etc) and adorned in the impactful artwork of Duncan MacPherson (Extinction Of Mankind etc) Towers will manifest on April 7th. The dream is over.
