HELLWRATH – SIN EATER EP LABEL: INDEPENDENT RELEASE RELEASE DATE: AUGUST 19th 2024

“In their rhythmic piping, droning, rattling, and beating I felt an element of terror beyond all the known terrors of earth—a terror peculiarly dissociated from personal fear, and taking the form of a sort of objective pity for our planet, that it should hold within its depths such horrors as must lie beyond these aegipanic cacophonies.”
‘Under The Pyramids’ - H.P. LovecraftBeneath my feet the earth shakes, as if in the throes of contorting agony – and rising from unimagined depths I hear the sound of drums like sky-rending thunder. They are drums of war, drums of imperious domination, drums of summoning. I slip into a trance and my mind’s eye descends through the soil, through the bones and relics of ages past, through the earth’s tortured crust, the red hell of the seething mantle, down into the planet’s core of fire. And there amidst the flames I see the creatures of nightmare amassed in their countless millions, bowing low before the impossible magnitude of the lord of devils, made strong by our pernicious wickedness, a towering god of darkness…the Sin Eater!
A new force in extreme heaviness has emerged from the south London smoke, a new pulverizing power without mercy, without remorse – Hellwrath have arrived upon the extreme music stage. Debut EP, Sin Eater, opens with the sounds of desperate panic that are slowly but insistently obliterated by riffs like the pounding of a gargantuan steam hammer. Landing staggered and staggering blows, first song, ‘Silence By Death’, delivers the Hellwrath manifesto – monstrous slamming power above all and beyond all. With vocals that rumble through your ribcage, shaking your internal organs and riffs that scour the sewers and the dark places of the earth, all riding on insidiously pulsating rhythms and a sense of inherent, mechanistic violence, Sin Eater unleashes a high impact sonic attack, with the force of a mortar shell. From the methodical beating of ‘The Alchemist’, with the weight of the world behind every chord, to the deep, scarring grooves and massive tactile riffs of ‘Hellwrath’, this EP is a journey through a landscape of blasted devastation. Vocalist and lyricist Paul Bower has drawn upon his days working in the grim and pressurised environment of the UK’s prisons and his own battles against the demons that prey on our mental well-being, infusing Sin Eater with an aura of confusion, anger and despondency, intensifying the brutal, juddering collision between the listener’s psyche and the band’s venomous outpourings of wounded rage. Concluding with a cover of Godsmack’s ‘I Stand Alone’ that takes this EP into different territories of melody and structure, despite being slammed into the dirt with typical Hellwrath heft and muscle, along with an EDM remix of ‘Sin Eater’ by Neutropics, Hellwrath’s debut demonstrates a willingness and ability to infiltrate unexpected dominions of darkness in the band’s quest for ultimate domination.
Produced and mixed by Alex Sedin (Anachronism, Adelon, Essence Of Datum etc) of Ghostalgy Prods, Sin Eater sounds vast and intimidatingly heavy, with an undercurrent of unnerving atmosphere. Prepare to be shaken to the core when Sin Eater erupts from the depths on August 19th.
